Company Overview
University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) and Methodist Healthcare became formally affiliated in 2002, making Methodist the principal adult private teaching hospital in Shelby County for UTHSC. To demonstrate the partnership with UTHSC, Methodist changed the name of its flagship hospital from Methodist Central Hospital to Methodist University Hospital. Research shows that the best medical centers in the country are academic medical centers, and recent studies demonstrate that patient outcomes are better in major teaching hospitals.
Company History
Launched in September 2013, UT Methodist Physicians (UTMP) is an academic physician practice group created to enhance primary care and hospital-based medical services in the Memphis area. A partnership between Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare and the UT Health Science Center, UTMP includes UTHSC physicians who have a strong history of affiliation with Methodist.
