Sansum Clinic is the oldest and largest non-profit, outpatient healthcare provider on the Central Coast. Our longevity is due to our ongoing investment in the latest equipment and technology and our recruitment of the best and the brightest physicians, which combined, enable us to deliver the high-tech and high-touch elements of quality healthcare. The organization's myriad healthcare advancements include the first renal dialysis machine and the first kidney transplant surgery in Santa Barbara. Sansum Clinic physicians performed the first carotid and laparoscopic surgeries and brought the first digital mammography services to Santa Barbara. The Clinic expanded care to residents with one of the first outpatient Urgent Care facilities, providing after-hours services that were open to the community. Company History

When we began in 1921, no one could have predicted the future of healthcare. Clinics as we know them today did not exist. The average life expectancy was 57 years; and although Dr. Sansum was working miracles in the treatment of diabetes, other diseases such as polio and tuberculosis still struck with devastating consequences.
But the founders of what was to become Sansum Clinic had a vision of a multi-specialty clinic where physicians would work together as a team maximizing the resources, skills and knowledge of all. A team that would provide the best possible care for all segments of our community. Out of that vision grew Sansum Clinic - the first multi-specialty clinic on the west coast and a model of premier health care that continues to grow along with the community it serves.

In 1998, the Santa Barbara Medical Clinic Foundation and the Sansum Medical Clinic joined together to become Sansum - Santa Barbara Medical Foundation Clinic. Long-recognized as leaders in the national, regional and local medical communities, merging the clinics helped us provide patients improved access to world-class physicians and healthcare services along California's South Central Coast.

In 2006 - our 85th year of serving the diverse communities of Santa Barbara County - the organization became simply "Sansum Clinic". We are proud to be one of the county's oldest and largest nonprofit medical foundations, providing advanced technology and a quality environment for the best possible practice of medicine. We have more than 200 physicians practicing more than 30 specialties.

Today, Sansum Clinic serves a community with a life expectancy now raised to 76 years. While polio is all but eradicated and tuberculosis has decreased, we continue to research the causes and treatments of diabetes, combat new diseases and manage the care of more than 150,000 patients. And Sansum Clinic has been providing excellence in comprehensive healthcare for 90 years.

We are the largest independent not-for-profit multi-specialty provider of outpatient services between Los Angeles and San Francisco, providing the full spectrum of services ranging from primary care to more than 30 specialties.
