Company Profile

Company Overview

Established in 1920, VMMC began as an 80-bed hospital with six physician offices. The founders' vision was to provide a single place where patients could receive comprehensive medical care, a "one-stop shopping" place for virtually any medical problem or need. Today, we are a private, non-profit organization offering a system of integrated health services including:
• A large, multi-specialty group practice of nearly 400 physicians
offering both primary and specialty care;
• a regional network of neighborhood clinics including sports and
occupational medicine facilities;
• an acute care hospital licensed for 336 beds;
• an internationally recognized research institute;
• an active philanthropic foundation;
• Bailey-Boushay, a nursing residence and day health center for
people living with AIDS.
Virginia Mason employs nearly 5,000 people including more than 480 physicians who practice in 45 different medical, surgical and diagnostic fields. Approximately 182 of our physicians have faculty appointments at the University of Washington, including 26 at the professorship level.
Unlike most hospitals, Virginia Mason's physicians actually work for the medical center. These professionals are assisted and supported by health care professionals, as well as administrative and technical folks who work like a well-oiled machine to provide exceptional patient care. This staffing model is the exception, not the norm, in health care. We believe that having one staff, working side-by-side, every day, results in superior patient care.
In recent years, Virginia Mason has attracted national attention for our work in patient safety and for delivering high-quality, cost-effective care. Our efforts in applying lean production principles to the health care setting have been featured in the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and the AMA’s American Medical News, and have led to recognition including the Leapfrog Governance for Quality Award. In 2008, The Leapfrog Group named Virginia Mason was one of 26 facilities across the country named as a Top Hospital and the only hospital in the Pacific Northwest to be listed.
We are also proud to be located in Seattle, which has been voted one of the top cities in which to raise a family. Seattle offers outstanding outdoor recreational activities as well as other activities such as wonderful theatre, sporting events, and superb dining. We are also fortunate to have excellent universities located nearby. Seattle has recently been ranked as the nation's best-educated big city.
Virginia Mason does not at this time accept J1 visas. All candidates must be BE/BC.
